The RE2020 succeeds the RT2012, we move from a thermal regulation to a more demanding and ambitious environmental regulation for the construction sector.

What is the objective of the RE2020?

Continue to improve the energy performance and comfort of buildings, while reducing their carbon impact.

How to reach it?

  • By using local and biosourced materials and insulation such as wood, cellulose wadding, etc.
  • By continuing to improve the energy performance and lower consumption of new buildings by emphasizing the performance of insulation.
  • By reducing the impact on the climate of new buildings by taking into account all emissions during the life cycle (construction, operation, end of life).
  • By allowing occupants to live in a place adapted to future climatic conditions.

The buildings concerned:

  • Individual houses and new collective housing.
  • New offices and primary and secondary education buildings.
  • New specific tertiary buildings: hotels, shops, etc.

Why this regulation?

In France, the building sector represents 44% of energy consumption and approximately 25% of CO2 emissions. The objective set in 2007 is to reduce GHG emissions by 4 in 2050 compared to those of 1990.
